Poor Eve—maligned by the church as the “devil’s gate- way”; the temptress who beguiled a gullible Adam and got us all kicked out of the garden! According to Carl Jung, all creation myths are symbols for the “creation of consciousness.” From the standpoint of depth psychology, what is the significance of Eve’s transgression? What does it mean to eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil? And what about that other tree—the Tree of Life? We will explore these issues, along with the mythic background of the Genesis story, and its connection with the ancient Near Eastern goddess.
